That's one article I've been meaning to do for some time now and haven't quite gotten around to it, but lets not let that stop us If you can take some measurements and made a picture or two I'm sure we could come up with something together and it can be something we can place here as a "guide". We can use SU or autocad to design it or at least work through the design. Only think is you'll have to build it and install it lol.
Thanks for the kind words. I'm sure you know that I'm always willing to help anyone I can. That said I like your attitude and the way that you approach things. I think we'll have some fun
Yes it looks like it's time to "update" that one . If she liked the one on Katz's site why not just go with that design? That would seem like a very easy one to put together.
Crown size should be about 3" 3-1/2" or so for a mantle that size. The shelve might be a bit harder to work out since you want it big enough to hold "stuff" but not so big that it looks awkward.
Mantels are fun projects since you can build them in your shop.
I've done a few and the last one I did was for my accountant (last year) and would you believe I did not take any pictures.. It was fairly easy to build except for a little radius work. His wife showed me a picture of one she liked and I copied it. I may have shop pics, I'll check and post them if I do.
I really need to be disciplined with taking pictures. Even the last two kitchen jobs I never took finished pictures.
